MyWhoosh Drone Police
Published on 4 Dec 2025, 12:41:31 by Jakub VojacekMyWhoosh update 5.4 added Drone police support to catch riders riding above what is humanly possible in free-ride and also to enforce categories in selected events.
The Drone Police monitors each rider in real-time. If it detects that a rider has crossed a certain threshold, it immediately removes them from the game. This differs from other platforms, where anti-cheat systems are often triggered only after the event has ended—meaning the rider may have already influenced the outcome of the race.
How does it look to get caught?
Below is a short video demonstrating the work of Police drone - the rider is stopped in a beam of red light and kicked from the event. Other riders do not see the same drone - for them, the rider simply vanishes from their screen.
Getting caught in free ride mode
The free-ride Police drone is quite benevolent. It only picks you up if you cross over thresholds that are the same or above to for example, Tadej Pogacar level.
Drone in Events
There are two options for the drone in Events. One is Events without categories (which as of writing this article, is majority). In those, the drone acts as in free-ride - only catches the most obvious riders pushing many, many watts per kilo.
For the events that also have Categories - such as the Beta Racing events or most importantly the new MyWhoosh Cycling Esports League, the drone can be finetuned a lot and actually catches riders that are riding over the category threshold. The category thresholds are always listed on the Event detail and usually they are aligned with MyWhooshInfo Ranks.
How exactly does the Drone detect over-category riders
While the categories are defied by FTP values, the categorization system is governed by a much more comprehensive analysis of each rider’s power curve, rather than just FTP alone.
The MyWhoosh Drone Police system reviews rider data across multiple durations to identify performance characteristics that align with expected profiles for each category. Riders exhibiting power outputs that exceed typical values for their assigned category—even if their FTP is within the category range—may be subject to reclassification or removal.
This system ensures fair competition by considering the full physiological performance profile, not just FTP, thereby identifying riders who may artificially lower their FTP while performing well above their declared category. The exact thresholds and durations are not publicly known to avoid people gaming the system.
How do I know if an event has a Police drone?
Check the Event list here on MyWhooshInfo. If the event has police, you will see this icon: local_police. You can also filter events by whether the Police drone is enabled or not. The image below shows Event detail example, you can see that the event is designed for Category 4, including the FTP limits, and also that the Police is enabled.
As of writing this article (4th December 2025), the ride progress is lost when you get caught - the activity is not uploaded to MyWhoosh nor to any other connected network. But we have been told that this is a subject to change, and an upload will be added in the near future.
