MyWhoosh level system explained with detailed information. Tips and tricks for fast leveling included!

You level up in-game by riding. But not all XP are created equal. This article delves into the math behind XP rewards.

How do I know what level I am

Your current level is visible in-game on the Profile selection screen and also in the Main menu in the upper left corner

Profile view level information Main menu level information

How do I get XP?

You gain experience in the following way:

  • 3XP per 1km ridden
  • 2XP per every minute in free ride, and workouts (this does not apply to events, since in events the timer never stops)
  • 1XP per 1m of gained elevation

XP multiplication - there are three special cases that helps you to gain even more XP:

  • When you complete a route during your ride, you will receive a bonus completedLaps * routeDifficulty * 50. Route difficulty is between 1 and 5 (Endurance climb is 5, and the short routes, such as Valley of Tombs, are 1). This bonus is awarded regardless of whether you have completed the route before already - it is awarded for every lap every time. Each route description now includes the difficulty factor on the route detail.
  • When you complete a workout, you will receive an additional bonus of 4 * TSS of the workout
  • When you complete an event, you will get 100 additional XP (500 for premium events, such as SRC)

So when you ride for 30 minutes and you cover 15km and 150m of elevation, you will gain:

Experience points = 15km * 3 + 30minutes * 2 + 150m * 1
                  = 45 + 60 + 150
                  = 255

You would gain 255 points for the ride. Now, if this were done during a workout that was 100TSS, there would be additional 4x100 = 400 gained.

If you did a 60-minute ride on Valley of Tombs, 4.91km, 14m, a route that you did not complete previously, and you do 5 laps (24.5km/70m elevation), you would gain

Experience points = 24.5km * 3 + 60minutes * 2 + 70m * 1 + 5laps * 1diffculty * 50
                  = 73.5 + 120 + 70 + 250
                  = 513

So, how to level up fast?

The formula above is very descriptive, but let's put the numbers into some practical examples. If you want to level up fast, should you ride on flat, mixed terrain, or pure mountains?

Let’s take a 1-hour ride as an example:

Flat (40 km/h, ~200 m elevation)

  • Distance: 40 × 3 = 120 XP
  • Time: 60 × 2 = 120 XP
  • Elevation: 200 × 1 = 200 XP
  • Total = 440 XP

Mixed (30 km/h, ~500 m elevation)

  • Distance: 30 × 3 = 90 XP
  • Time: 60 × 2 = 120 XP
  • Elevation: 500 × 1 = 500 XP
  • Total = 710 XP

Mountain (15 km/h, ~1000 m elevation)

  • Distance: 15 × 3 = 45 XP
  • Time: 60 × 2 = 120 XP
  • Elevation: 1000 × 1 = 1000 XP
  • Total = 1165 XP

From the numbers above, it's clear that the fastest way to level up is to focus only on mountainous routes, such as Snowfall Mountain, for example - you could complete the Everesting there to get the route completion multiplier!

Just to clarify, you only get course completion multiplier the first time you complete the course? Or do you get the multiplier any time you complete given course?

MyWhoosh Champion 2025 Cat 4 cz Jakub Vojacek posted at 16 Oct 2025, 12:16:32

Hello Brian, you get it for every lap that you complete on the route, regardless whether you've completed it before.

Can you confirm the course difficulties listed are accurate? I only ask because there a few that don't really make sense. For instance: In Alula, Canyon Pass is rated at difficulty 4 with 31km and 438m elevation, yet Heritage Climb is a difficulty 3 with 39km and 679m.

MyWhoosh Champion 2025 Cat 4 cz Jakub Vojacek posted at 1 Nov 2025, 11:16:31

Yes, Brian, the difficulty is taken from the game directly - it should be correct.

crunching some numbers i'd like to add, that example scenario 1 should need about 30% more power than senario 2 and 3. Also to consider: if you grind your way up 1000m of elevation in one hour (bagging over 1k exp) you can just let your avatar roll down and gain some free exp on top :)
